"75 days ago we achieved the most epic political victory our country has ever seen", said hours before his swearing-in as the new US president, Donald Trump, quoted by Reuters and BTA.
"Starting tomorrow, I will act with historic speed to strengthen the strength of our country and deal with every crisis it faces", the future president added.
His speech at today's rally is Trump's first major address in Washington, since the speech he gave on January 6, 2021, just before his supporters stormed the Capitol. The incoming president has promised to pardon many of the more than 1,500 people convicted or charged in connection with the attack.
Border security will feature prominently in Trump's first executive orders, which are likely to designate drug cartels as "foreign terrorist organizations," declare a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border and seek to reinstate the "remain in Mexico" policy that forces asylum seekers who are not of Mexican origin to wait in Mexico for their U.S. court dates, said his homeland security adviser, Stephen Miller.
The incoming president has promised to "remove radical ideologies from our military" and said he would order the military to build a missile shield over the United States, though he has not yet offered details on how to do so.
He also indicated that he would reverse the "excessive declassification" of government documents, which appears to be a reference to his federal indictment for withholding classified documents after leaving office.
Trump has promised to release classified documents related to the assassinations of President John F. Kennedy, his brother Robert Kennedy and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.
