The Daily Telegraph: Trump considering moving US troops from Germany to Hungary - 1

US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of withdrawing US troops from Germany and then deploying them to Hungary, the British newspaper The Daily Telegraph reports, citing sources close to the Trump administration.

There are currently 35,000 US troops serving in Germany.

“Trump is angry that Europe seems to be supporting the war“, the source told the publication.

As The Daily Telegraph notes, the choice in favor of Hungary may be related to the position of the country's President Viktor Orban on Ukraine and the problems associated with the settlement of the conflict. The publication also notes that Trump plans to redeploy US troops to countries that meet NATO defense spending targets and plans to increase them.

“While there are no specific announcements planned in the near future, the US military is always considering the possibility of moving troops from one point on the globe to another to most effectively counter threats to our interests“, Brian Hughes, spokesman for the White House National Security Council, told the publication.

The United States is considering plans to ease energy sanctions against Russia. This was reported by Reuters, citing its sources.

According to the agency, the White House has instructed the Treasury Department to study ways in which sanctions against the Russian energy sector could be eased if the Ukrainian conflict ends. This should allow Washington to quickly lift sanctions if a peace deal is reached.

However, Reuters sources noted that this does not mean the US is ready to ease sanctions as a gesture of goodwill.
