US President-elect Donald Trump and his wife Melania have arrived at the White House to meet with President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, as seen in footage from the AP's live broadcast of today's inauguration ceremonies for Trump, BTA reported.
"Welcome home", Biden said to his host after Trump got out of the limousine. The Trump family shook hands with the president and first lady after climbing the stairs of the White House under the arch of the north portico.
The four have a private meeting and are chatting over tea and coffee. This is an informal ceremony of transfer of power, which was not there 4 years ago, when Biden became president, but Trump did not recognize his victory, notes the AP.
Earlier, Trump was seen for the first time today at the start of the celebrations on the occasion of his inauguration day at a service at the Episcopal Church "St. John" on "Lafayette" Square behind the White House, the "New York Post" reported. After leaving the "Blair House", the official residence for guests of the president, where he spent the night, the future 47th president headed to the church in a motorcade after 8:30 a.m.
The future commander in chief was accompanied to the service by his wife Melania, who wore an elegant black hat and coat and did not let go of her husband's hand. The couple were greeted outside the church by the Rev. Robert W. Fisher before entering.
Trump was joined at the service by Vice President-elect J.D. Vance and his wife, Usha. Several of Trump's children, including Ivanka and Eric, as well as his grandchildren, were also seated in the church.
Following a tea reception at the White House, U.S. President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, along with President-elect Donald Trump and his wife Melania, will head to the Capitol in a joint motorcade before the swearing-in ceremony at 12:00 p.m.
