Hundreds of people gathered in the Rotunda of the US Capitol building waiting for Donald Trump to be sworn in as the 47th president of the United States. The ceremony is broadcast live on major American television networks.
Trump himself and future Vice President J.D. Vance, who will also be sworn in, arrived at the Capitol, as well as members of their families.
Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton walked the Capitol corridors for Trump's inauguration, followed by former President George W. Bush and former First Lady Laura Bush. Barack Obama was the last of the former presidents to arrive. He was not accompanied by his wife Michelle Obama, who will skip the ceremony.
Several future members of Trump's cabinet entered the circular chamber under the Capitol dome, including Tulsi Gabbard, chosen to be the director of national intelligence; Robert F. Kennedy Jr., chosen to head the Department of Health and Human Services; and Pete Hegseth, chosen to head the Pentagon.
Television cameras also caught Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, and Trump ally Elon Musk, the world's richest man. The three were at the podium where Trump will be sworn in and deliver his inaugural address.
For the first time since 1985, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated for his second term, the inauguration will not be held in front of the Capitol, but will be held indoors due to the cold weather in Washington.
The presidential parade will then take place at the Capital One Arena in Washington.
