An Israeli soldier was killed and an officer was seriously injured last night after their jeep hit a roadside bomb in the town of Tamun in the northern West Bank, the Israeli army announced today, quoted by DPA, BTA reported.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Israel's Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi today announced readiness for a major military operation in the area.

"In addition to intensive defense preparations in the Gaza Strip, we must be ready for large-scale operations in Judea and Samaria to outrun the terrorists and capture them before they reach our civilian population," Halevi said, using Israeli terms for the West Bank.

Tensions in the occupied West Bank have risen since the attacks of October 7, 2023, organized by the Palestinian militant organization "Hamas" from the Gaza Strip, DPA reports. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 800 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli military operations and attacks on Jewish settlers.
