US President Donald Trump has reversed the decision of the Joe Biden administration to remove Cuba from the US list of state sponsors of terrorism, the White House said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
Just hours after taking office for a second presidential term, Trump signed a document reversing Biden's decision of January 14 to remove Cuba from the list. As a result, Cuba remains on the list of state sponsors of terrorism, which Trump himself included at the end of his first term in 2021.
Biden's decision last week was tied to a commitment for Cuba to release more than 500 prisoners. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel reacted on social media, calling Trump's decision a "mockery and harassment."
Removing Cuba from the list of state sponsors of terrorism would have helped ease sanctions on the island nation, which is in deep economic crisis.
