German Chancellor Olaf Scholz will visit Paris today to meet with French President Emmanuel Macron. The meeting between the two leaders, scheduled for around noon at the Elysee Palace, is part of a series of high-level diplomatic talks between the two countries, BTA reports.

The discussions will focus on key international topics such as the European Union's relations with the United States after the inauguration of President Donald Trump, the war in Ukraine and conflicts in the Middle East.

Franco-German Friendship Day

Sholz's visit coincides with celebrations of the 62nd anniversary of the signing of the Elysee Treaty. This historic document, signed on January 22, 1963 by Charles de Gaulle and Konrad Adenauer, laid the foundations for Franco-German cooperation and reconciliation after the Second World War.

The day is marked by a series of meetings and discussions, including a visit by the President of the German Bundesrat, Anke Rellinger, who is already in Paris. She held talks with the presidents of both chambers of the French parliament, and her meetings will continue tomorrow.

Upcoming defense talks

As part of bilateral cooperation events, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will meet with French Defense Minister Sébastien Lecornu tomorrow. The talks will focus on strengthening security and defense cooperation between the two countries.

These meetings highlight the importance of the Franco-German partnership for Europe and the world, strengthening ties between the two leading economies in the EU.
