The export permits issued by the German government for arms and military equipment reached a new record level in 2024, according to data provided to DPA.
Last year, the German government approved exports of arms and military equipment worth a record 13.33 billion euros, the Ministry of Economics announced.
This information was provided in response to a parliamentary inquiry submitted by a member of parliament from the left-wing, populist Alliance "Sarah Wagenknecht".
The record is largely due to exports to Ukraine, with 8.15 billion euros approved for Kiev. It is followed by Singapore with 1.21 billion euros, Algeria with 558.7 million euros, the United States with 319.9 million euros and Turkey with 230.8 million. euro.
German arms supplies to NATO member Turkey have been controversial in recent years due to concerns about the human rights situation in Turkey and some of the Turkish government's foreign policy actions, DPA notes.
The request for information was made by MP Sevim Dagdelen from the newly formed "Sarah Wagenknecht" Alliance - a formation that last year split from the far-left "The Left" party. Wagenknecht, who is its leader, defines the party's political ideology as "left-wing conservatism".
