President Donald Trump has ordered the US military to lift a ban imposed by former President Joe Biden's administration on deliveries of 2,000-pound bombs to Israel, a White House source told Reuters.
The move was widely expected. Biden halted the delivery of the bombs over war concerns. in Gaza.
The Biden administration was particularly concerned about the consequences of using such heavy bombs in the Gaza city of Rafah, where more than a million Palestinians have taken shelter.
Meanwhile, the U.S. State Department has asked its funded humanitarian demining organizations to immediately cease their activities, the New York Times reported.
The head of the State Department's Arms Control and Disarmament Office sent an email today saying the suspension of work was "consistent with the president's order to reassess and redirect U.S. foreign assistance," the newspaper said.
