Zverev with an extraordinary comment on domestic violence allegations - 1

Alexander Zverev was irritated by the chants from the stands related to the domestic violence allegations made against him by two ex-girlfriends during the Australian Open tennis awards ceremony.

The German received the runner-up prize after losing in the final to Yannick Sinner and was about to give a speech to the full "Rod Laver Arena" when a female voice was heard shouting loudly three times:

"Australia trusts Olya and Brenda".

Zverev has been publicly accused of violence twice, first in 2020 by Olga Sharipova (known as Olya), then in 2023 by Brenda Patea, who has a daughter with the world number two.

Sharipova did not press charges, and a 15-month investigation by the ATP ended two years ago with no action taken due to a lack of sufficient evidence.

The Patea case went to court and last June Zverev agreed to pay 200,000 euros in a settlement. He has strongly denied both charges.

Zverev appeared shocked when the screams broke out, while the woman was booed by some other spectators in the stands.

Asked about the incident at his press conference, the 27-year-old Zverev said: "I believe there will be no more charges. There haven't been any for, what, nine months.

"Good for her. I think she was the only one in the stands who believed anything at that moment. If that's the case, good for her. I think I've done everything I can and I don't intend to reopen this topic."
