An air alert was declared in the Ukrainian capital Kiev and in areas in the eastern part of the country tonight, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The agency notes that this happened just hours after the ceasefire declared on the occasion of Easter by Russian President Vladimir Putin expired.
The two sides in the conflict accused each other of thousands of ceasefire violations.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified that President Putin had not ordered an extension of the ceasefire.
His Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky, in turn, proposed a halt to drone and missile attacks on civilian infrastructure for 30 days.
Ukrainian armed forces have recorded nearly 3,000 violations by Russia of its self-declared ceasefire for Easter, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced tonight, quoted by Reuters.
He wrote on "Telegram" that 2,935 violations of the ceasefire, which expired at midnight, had been recorded.
"Ukrainian actions will continue to be mirror-like: we will respond to silence with silence, our strikes will be to protect against Russian strikes," he made it clear.
The Ukrainian Air Force, meanwhile, announced, quoted by Ukrinform, that it had detected Russian reconnaissance drones over the northern Sumy region.
The agency earlier reported 86 clashes between Ukrainian and Russian troops yesterday.
The Director of the Center for Countering Disinformation at the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andriy Kovalenko, commented that the Russian information operation aimed at accusing Ukraine of violating the "ceasefire" had failed, Ukrinform also reported.
"Russia itself did not adhere to the ceasefire it announced and in some places used the situation to prepare for possible new assault actions, and continued fighting in key areas," Kovalenko summarized. He noted that if Moscow really wanted to end the war, then for a start the Easter truce could have been extended by 30 days.
"And, of course, the proposal of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to stop strikes on civilians with long-range missiles and drones is very appropriate", Kovalenko pointed out.
He also said that it would soon become clear whether Russia really wants to end the war. "This is not clear yet", added Kovalenko.
Ukraine is proposing that Russia stop its drone and missile attacks on civilian infrastructure for at least 30 days, Zelensky said yesterday, quoted by Reuters.
"If Russia does not agree to such a step, this will be proof that it intends to continue doing only those things that destroy human lives and prolong the war," Zelensky said on the social platform "Ex".
