Swedish police have arrested a man who tried to drive a car into the gates of the Russian embassy in Stockholm early this morning, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
The 45-year-old man's attempt was unsuccessful and he was detained under aggravating circumstances, police said, without giving further details about his identity.
A police spokesman said the man's motive was unclear and nothing suspicious was found in the car. The Russian embassy complex was not seriously damaged as a result of the attempted break-in.
“At around 7 a.m. on January 28, a Ukrainian citizen permanently residing in Sweden attempted to crash a car into the gates of the Russian embassy in Stockholm,“ the embassy said in a statement on its Telegram app channel. “The perpetrator of the incident is well known to both the embassy and local police,“ the statement added.
Swedish police have not yet confirmed this information. “We do not comment on the nationality of the arrested people,“ a police spokeswoman noted.
