Fourteen people were injured in an Israeli drone attack in South Lebanon despite a ceasefire agreement in force since the end of November 2024. This was announced today by the Lebanese Ministry of Health, quoted by DPA and BTA.
An explosion was heard in the area of the city of Nabatieh, about 10 kilometers from the border with Israel. Flames were observed, the official Lebanese National News Agency (NNA) reported. According to reports, an Israeli drone hit a vehicle in the area.
Meanwhile, Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati announced that nine Lebanese prisoners had been released by Israel as part of the ceasefire. He stressed that he had requested the release of nine more people who remain detained.
A few days ago, Mikati informed that he had requested the United States to assist in the release of the prisoners after the deadline for implementing the ceasefire agreement was extended. This agreement ended the last war between the “Hezbollah“ movement and Israel.
In a statement, a spokesman for the International Committee of the Red Cross welcomed the release of the Lebanese citizens and confirmed the organization's readiness to act as a neutral mediator.
According to AFP, Israel captured seven “Hezbollah“ fighters during the conflict. The Israeli army has also detained an unspecified number of civilians in the past three days after they tried to return to their home villages in southern Lebanon before the full withdrawal of Israeli forces.
Lebanese authorities reported 24 civilians killed two days ago, as well as two more yesterday. In addition, the Lebanese army reported today that one soldier and three civilians were wounded by Israeli fire.
According to the truce of November 27, 2024, Israeli forces were supposed to complete their withdrawal from southern Lebanon, with the area remaining under the control of the Lebanese army and UN peacekeepers. However, the agreement provides for an extension of the withdrawal deadline until February 18, 2025, the United States, which is participating in the monitoring committee, reported.
