German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called American businessman Elon Musk's support for right-wing politicians in Europe "disgusting" in an interview with CNN.
He expressed categorical disagreement with the billionaire's actions, emphasizing that such things harm democracy in European countries.
“And this is really disgusting and not good for democratic development in the entire European Union“, said the Chancellor.
At the end of December, Musk said that only the right-wing party "Alternative for Germany" /AfD/ can save the country. He predicted an "epic" victory for the AfD in the German elections. According to the businessman, traditional political parties in Germany have “disappointed their people“.
Meanwhile, a group of members of the European Parliament from different countries strongly condemned the billionaire's statements after Donald Trump took office as US president.
“In recent weeks, Elon Musk has made comments that could potentially have a negative impact on European democracies. Using X, he openly supported the far-right AfD, making controversial statements and inviting its leader for a live interview. Elon Musk also proposed the removal of judges who rule on certain immigration cases in Italian courts, they wrote in a complaint to the European Commission.
Recalling that Musk owns X and is an advisor to Trump, MEPs ask the EC whether it considers the allegations to be a “systemic risk” which “could have actual or foreseeable negative consequences for the freedom and pluralism of the media, as well as for civil society and electoral processes”
