North Korean leader Kim Jong-un called for strengthening the country's nuclear shield during a visit to a nuclear facility, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
According to North Korea's KCNA news agency, Kim said that given the current security situation, it is "imperative" to continuously strengthen the country's nuclear defense. The agency did not specify the location of the facility or the date of the visit.
Meanwhile, a US government official confirmed on Tuesday that President Donald Trump will continue efforts for the complete denuclearization of North Korea. "President Trump will pursue the complete denuclearization of North Korea, as he did in his first term," U.S. National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes was quoted as saying by Yonhap news agency.
During his first term, Trump pursued an unconventional policy toward North Korea, shifting from threats to direct diplomacy. He met with Kim three times - in Singapore, Hanoi, and at the demarcation line between North and South Korea in June 2019. Despite these diplomatic efforts, no agreement was reached on the complete denuclearization of North Korea.
