Romania scrambled fighter jets over Russian attack - 1

The Romanian Ministry of National Defense announced that two F-16 fighter jets were sent to monitor Romanian airspace near the border with Ukraine last night due to a new attack by Russian drones against Ukrainian infrastructure near Tulcea, Agerpres reported.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense's surveillance systems reported the presence of drones in Ukrainian airspace with a course near the border with Romania.

The statement said that at around 3:20 a.m., two Romanian Air Force fighter jets, part of the air policing service, took off from the 86th Air Base in Borcea to monitor the situation. The planes returned to their base after about two hours.

The RO-ALERT system was also activated to protect the population in the area of Cilia Veche.

Radar data did not indicate that the aircraft entered Romanian airspace. However, teams from the Ministry of National Defense will conduct a survey of the areas where a risk may arise as a result of the situation.

Allied structures are informed in real time about the situation resulting from the attacks.

The Romanian Ministry of Defense categorically condemns the attacks of the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian targets and infrastructure elements, which are defined as unjustified and in serious violation of the norms of international law.
