Serbian authorities did not seek help from Moscow, and the country's leadership is able to cope with the problems on its own, Dmitry Peskov said on Wednesday (January 29), RIA Novosti reported, citing Focus.
The political situation in Serbia has escalated after Prime Minister Miloš Vučević resigned on Tuesday amid mass student and opposition protests. Vučević said President Aleksandar Vučić supported the decision in a late-night phone call. The interim government will continue to perform its functions in a technical mandate.
President Vučić said that within the next 10 days a decision will be made whether to hold early parliamentary elections or form a new cabinet without dissolving parliament.
In response to a journalist's question whether Belgrade had requested support from Moscow, Peskov stated categorically:
"No, the Serbian authorities have not appealed. The Serbian leadership is able to deal with its problems on its own."
