Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has announced that he will receive in Budapest the candidate for chancellor of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, Alice Weidel. She will visit the Hungarian capital ahead of Germany's federal elections this month, Reuters reports, BTA reports.

“Berlin has always been a city of walls. It's time to tear down another one,“ Orban wrote in a post on the social network “Ex“.

In a separate interview with the Swiss newspaper “Neue Zürcher Zeitung“ the prime minister said the visit would take place next week.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, said that the AfD and the populist Alliance Sarah Wagenknecht party would not receive invitations to this year's defense forum meeting, DPA reported.

According to Heusgen, these parties do not adhere to the conference's basic principles, which include peace through dialogue. He stressed that AfD and Alliance Sarah Wagenknecht MPs boycotted Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's speech to the German parliament in June.

For many years, it was a tradition for the conference to send invitations to all parliamentary parties. Heusgen ended this practice in 2023, when he chaired the conference for the first time, and did not invite AfD MPs. Last year, he did not invite Alliance representatives “Sarah Wagenknecht“.

The Munich Security Conference has been held in the Bavarian capital every winter since 1963, with rare exceptions.
