Europe must become fully self-sufficient in its defense within the next three to five years due to threats from Russia. This was stated by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in an interview with "Politico", reports News.bg.
According to Frederiksen, she fully supports efforts to rearmament Europe and insists on the creation of a "very ambitious plan" in this direction.
She expressed skepticism about Russian President Vladimir Putin's intentions to end the war in Ukraine. Frederiksen stressed that she is not optimistic that Russia wants to lead a "normal neighborly life" with the countries of Europe, adding that Russia's behavior is "so against humanity, against Europe and everything that the continent symbolizes."
Regarding former US President Donald Trump's threats to annex Greenland, an autonomous territory under the Danish crown, Frederiksen categorically stated that the country's sovereignty must be respected. Greenland is part of the territory of the Kingdom of Denmark, and the Prime Minister expressed her expectations that everyone will respect Denmark's territorial integrity.
Mette Frederiksen noted that Europe's potential is "very great", but in order for it to be realized, certain barriers must be removed. According to her, Europe is still working with a "peacetime mindset" and there is no time for delay if it wants to make strategic decisions on security issues.
