It is obvious that Trump's influence in Europe is being felt. This was stated in the program "From the Day" on BNT by former Deputy Foreign Minister Lyubomir Kyuchukov, quoted by novini.bg.
In the near future, we will increasingly encounter the concept of new imperialism. Both the USA, Russia, and China openly talk about the conquest of territory, not excluding the use of military force – something that Russia is doing. We are entering an era in which the Great Powers are changing their attitude towards geopolitics quite sharply. International relations are increasingly developing from the position of power, we are also observing growing militarization, said Kyuchukov.
The European Union seems to be trying to play on foreign turf. It is an alliance of peace and for peace, it prefers to resolve disputes politically and impose standards. Currently, the European Union is trying to position itself in the rut of hard power, where it has not been able to compete with other Great Powers so far. Neither the terrain nor the game is the same anymore. If we compare it with football, excluding the European Union, the other players prefer to play rugby or American football, the former Deputy Foreign Minister pointed out.
The NATO Secretary General said that we are facing a war with Russia. The big question is whether we are trying to prepare for this war or prevent it. So far, from what I see, the former is happening, he added.
According to him, the US president's position on NATO is long-standing and Trump views the Alliance more as an instrument of American interests.
Lyubomir Kyuchukov also commented on the situation surrounding the war with Ukraine and the claim that Trump will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where a possible end to the conflict is expected to be discussed.
They announced that such a meeting is coming, but we have to see where and when it will happen. The most serious problem is that what has emerged as an approach to ending the war seems to be happening without Europe and to a large extent is causing concerns among the Ukrainians themselves. This cannot happen without the participation of Ukraine, nor without the participation of Europe. This will most likely take place in a format with the participation of the UN, Kyuchukov noted.
Asked if a peace agreement can be expected in the near future, he said: "A ceasefire is possible, I don't see how lasting peace can be achieved at the moment and territorial issues can be resolved".
