Arab countries' letter to Marco Rubio expresses objections to Palestinian displacement - 1

Five Arab foreign ministers and a senior Palestinian official sent a letter to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, in which they categorically oppose President Donald Trump's proposal to displace Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, BTA reports.

The letter was signed by the foreign ministers of Jordan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, as well as Palestinian presidential adviser Hussein al-Sheikh, after their meeting in Cairo over the weekend.

Main objections to the displacement

In late January, Trump proposed that Palestinians from Gaza be relocated to Jordan and Egypt, saying it could be either both a short-term and a long-term solution. This proposal has raised serious concerns among Palestinians, who see it as a potential threat to their forced displacement and see it as part of a process of ethnic cleansing.

Resistance from Arab countries

The signed letter emphasizes that the reconstruction of Gaza must be done through the direct participation of the people of the region, with the help of the international community. The Arab ministers insist that the Palestinians must have an active role in the reconstruction process and that their rights must not be restricted at this critical period. They categorically state that displacement is not a solution, but on the contrary – will only deepen existing conflicts.

Consequences of the Gaza conflict

During the recent military actions, more than 47,000 Palestinians lost their lives, and the events led to accusations of genocide and war crimes against Israel, which the country categorically denies.

Military actions between Israel and “Hamas“ are currently suspended after a ceasefire was reached, but the regional conflict remains one of the largest humanitarian and political problems in the world.
