Inadequate care in prison! Radovan Karadzic is in serious health condition - 1

The President of the Bosnian Republika Srpska Milorad Dodik assessed as "inhumane" the conditions under which the former political leader of the Bosnian Serbs Radovan Karadzic is serving his sentence for genocide and crimes against humanity in prison on the British Isle of Wight, BTA writes.

"Karadzic's health condition is serious and his life is in danger due to inadequate medical care and inhumane conditions in the British prison on the Isle of Wight," wrote on his social network profile Ex Dodik after a conversation with Karadzic's daughter, Sonja Karadzic.

According to Dodik, the conditions in which Karadzic is serving his sentence violate all international rules, as well as the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

He pointed out that yesterday he had spoken with Sonja Karadzic, who informed him of her father's deteriorating health due to poor prison conditions.

"It is necessary to urgently react and provide Radovan Karadzic with adequate medical care. I hope that despite the irreparable consequences of the treatment so far, (a better reaction) will be achieved quickly," Dodik also noted.

Karadzic, who had been on the run from international justice for 13 years, was arrested by Serbian special services in a suburb of Belgrade in July 2008. and handed over to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. In March 2016, Karadzic was sentenced to 40 years in prison after being found guilty of genocide in Srebrenica, as well as war crimes and crimes against humanity during the 44-month siege of Sarajevo, the taking of UN peacekeepers hostage, and ethnic cleansing to drive Croats and Bosnian Muslims from a number of areas in Bosnia. The international Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals found the sentence too lenient in 2019 and commuted it to life imprisonment, denying the former president the right to appeal the decision.
