The initiative to boycott stores on a certain day, which started in Croatia and spread to a number of countries in the Balkans, has also reached Greece, where a consumer organization called on citizens to refrain from purchases on February 19 in protest against prices, Greek media reported, quoted by BTA.

The Greek General Federation of Consumers INKA called on citizens to boycott stores on February 19 and not to spend “a single euro“ on that day, the information portal “News 24/7“ reported.

The organization calls on consumers “if possible“ not to pay “a single euro to banks, the state, for water, electricity, telephones, fuel, in supermarkets, cafes, restaurants, markets, e-shops“ and others. “Enough with mockery, fraud, speculation and profiteering to the detriment of citizens-consumers“, the organizers of the protest write.

On the other hand, a study by the Institute for Research on Retail Trade in Consumer Goods, cited by the portal in.gr, shows that prices in Greek supermarkets in January 2025. remained almost unchanged compared to January 2024.

Inflation in retail chains was around 0.09 percent in January, with the increase in the price of some products being offset by the decrease in the price of others.

A significant increase in price is noted in certain categories such as cocoa products and coffee, as well as in raw meat. Cocoa and coffee are influenced by the global trade situation, while meat is affected by the reduction in livestock as a result of the various diseases that affected livestock farming in Greece in the past year. Chocolate and confectionery products have increased in price by 8.89 percent over the year, and raw meat - by 3.05 percent.

However, the increase in the price of these products is offset by the decline in prices in other categories, the study shows. Cleaning products have decreased in price by 9.36 percent, baby and children's food - by by 4.42 percent, sausages – by 2.76 percent.
