Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) announced today that it had arrested four women who allegedly worked for Ukrainian special services and were preparing attacks on top Russian military and energy facilities, Agence France-Presse and BTA reported.
"The FSB has put an end to the activities of four female agents recruited by Ukrainian special services," the service said in a statement. The arrests were made in Sevastopol, on the Russian-occupied Crimean peninsula, as well as in Voronezh and Rostov-on-Don.
According to the FSB, the detainees underwent training on Ukrainian territory, including handling firearms, mines and explosives, as well as operating drones. Their goal was to carry out sabotage and terrorist acts against senior officers of the Russian Defense Ministry and strategic energy facilities.
The searches found "a large number of explosives", components for improvised explosive devices and "means of communication with their Ukrainian leaders", the FSB reported.
If found guilty, the detainees could receive sentences of up to 30 years in prison.
