The European Union and the US have expressed concerns that Russia may set unacceptable conditions for peace in Ukraine. This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaia Kalas at a press conference after the meeting of foreign ministers in Brussels, BTA reports.
“Russia cannot be trusted – Moscow will take advantage of the situation to impose any conditions“, stressed Kalas. According to her, the peace talks have not yet begun in substance and only diplomatic consultations are currently being held. “There is no negotiating table – "Russia is not ready to participate in them," she added.
Kallas pointed out that all EU countries support the results of the Jeddah meeting and there is broad political support for providing 40 billion euros in military aid to Ukraine, with discussions on this issue continuing.
The EU foreign ministers also discussed the future of Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty after the US decision to end its funding. "We regret this decision. We are discussing whether the EU can take over part of the funding, but there is no automatic solution - many organizations expect support from us," Kalas specified.
Talks on these key issues will continue in search of common solutions, the High Representative added.
