Mexico has accepted nearly 11,000 deported migrants from the United States since Jan. 20, when US President Donald Trump took office, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said, as quoted by "Reuters".
She noted that the number included about 2,500 non-Mexicans.
Earlier this week, Sheinbaum reached a deal with Trump to halt threatened tariffs on Mexican goods in exchange for deploying thousands of National Guard troops to the country's northern border with the United States in an effort to further reduce the flow of migrants traveling to the United States.
Speaking at her regular morning press conference, Sheinbaum added that Mexico has also repatriated deported migrants to Honduras via flights and ground transportation.
But she stressed that the repatriation is not forced.
"This is voluntary," she told reporters. "We will accompany them so they can go to their home countries.
