A new Turkey and a new Istanbul after 2028, promised Turkish President and leader of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the party's regular regional congress held in Istanbul today, reported "Hürriyet", quoted by BTA.
Regular presidential and parliamentary elections are to be held in the country in 2028. In this way, Erdogan indirectly rejected the opposition's insistence on holding snap elections this year.
During the event, Erdogan said that his party is heading united towards 2028. and that it will achieve many new victories, as it has done many times since its establishment in 2001 until today. The president congratulated the newly appointed regional head of the party, Abdullah Özdemir, stating that he is “our brother, who has made an impression with his excellent work.“
The regional congress of the Justice and Development Party (AKP) in Istanbul precedes the party's general congress, which is scheduled for February 23 in the capital Ankara.
