Another step back! Donald Trump signs order to postpone tariffs on cheaper Chinese goods - 1

US President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Monday to postpone tariffs on de minimis imports from China of cheaper goods that do not exceed a certain value and are not subject to tariffs, Reuters reported, BTA reports.

The postponement will remain in effect until the US Commerce Department is able to confirm that the procedures and systems are in place to process the packages and collect the tariff revenue.

The so-called de minimis exemption allows imported products below a certain value not to be subject to customs tariffs, "to avoid costs and inconveniences to the government that are disproportionate to the amount of revenue that would otherwise be collected".

In 2015, the U.S. Congress amended Section 321(a) of the Tariff Act and raised the threshold below which imports into the U.S. are not subject to duties to $800.
