Hungary opposes EU funding of the military conflict in Ukraine, as it is convinced that this is tantamount to plundering the European continent. This was stated by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, speaking in Madrid at a meeting of the leaders of the right-wing conservative parties that form the European Parliament's "Patriots of Europe" faction.
The head of government believes that in recent years the so-called progressive global elite "simply plunders Europe", and Brussels' actions lead to "the collapse of the European economy". "Our money is being spent on a hopeless war in Ukraine, while Europe is being taken over by migrants," Orban said, recalling that he warned about the dangers of illegal migration 10 years ago.
They didn't believe Hungary, but now it's "time to look for new conspiracy theories, because all the old ones have been confirmed," the prime minister joked, drawing laughter from the audience. He assured that his government intends to continue fighting against the current policy of Brussels, not allowing illegal migrants into the country and defending traditional moral and ethical values. "We have banned transgender propaganda in Hungarian schools, we have obliged all government agencies to protect Christian culture, and we believe that a woman is a mother and a man is a father," Orbán noted.
According to him, this is why "the globalist elite hates" Hungary. "Brussels bureaucrats, US Democrats and the network of [Hungarian-born American financier George] Soros have declared a hunt for us," the prime minister noted. However, he hopes that the principles that Hungary defends will become "mainstream of world politics" and that right-wing conservative parties will come to power in European countries.
The head of the Hungarian government hopes that this will be facilitated by the return of Republican Donald Trump to the post of US president. "Trump has just begun and will succeed," said Orban, who is considered one of the main European allies of the American leader. He wished the host of the meeting, the leader of the Spanish Vox party, success on the political stage and ascend to the heights of power. Santiago Abascal, comparing him to a fearless bullfighter.
Other participants in the Madrid meeting also spoke about the need for further consolidation of conservative forces in Europe and expressed confidence that Trump's return to the White House would help with this. There were calls to combat left-wing radicalism, the undisputed "green agenda", transgender ideology and illegal migration. The chairman of the Conservative People's Party of Estonia, Martin Helme, proposed concluding a "Pact of Normality" in defense of traditional family and sexual values, so that European children “do not turn into transgender freaks“.
The “Patriots of Europe“ faction was created after the 2024 European Parliament elections. It was attended by 84 deputies representing 14 parties from 12 countries. The leader of the French National Unity party, Jordan Bardella, was elected chairman.
The initiator of the creation of the new supranational group is Orbán, who is the leader of the ruling party in Hungary FIDES - Hungarian Civic Union. Together with her, the Patriots of Europe faction has the most MEPs. The National Rally, the League led by Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini, the Czech ANO (Action of Dissatisfied Citizens) movement, the Austrian Freedom Party and the Spanish Vox were sent.
„Patriots of Europe“ turned out to be the third largest faction in the European Parliament after the European People's Party and the "Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats" coalition. The liberal-democratic and centrist parties still have a significantly larger number of votes in the EU legislature and, as before, form the European Commission.
