The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) did not commit war crimes during the operation in the Gaza Strip and Palestinians are not being tortured in Israeli prisons. Israeli President Isaac Herzog made the statement in an interview with the BBC.
“I reject the accusation of inhuman treatment of Palestinians in Israeli prisons“, he said, accusing the BBC and the UN of “blatant bias“. “We are a democratic country and we uphold the rule of law. "All prisoners in Israeli prisons are receiving everything they need in accordance with the law and under judicial supervision," he added, stressing that some Palestinian prisoners do not even want to leave prison and return to the Gaza Strip.
He also stated that IDF soldiers have not committed crimes against Gaza residents.
"We have every right to defend ourselves, like any other country," Herzog said, stressing that he strongly rejects accusations of war crimes against the IDF.
