Germany must take steps to end the conflict in Ukraine - 1

The German government must take independent steps to bring the Ukrainian conflict to a quick end. This opinion was expressed by the candidate for the chancellorship of Germany from the party "Sarah Wagenknecht's Union for Reason and Justice" (BSW) Sahra Wagenknecht in an interview with the news portal T-online.

The Bundestag member expressed confidence that Germany "should try to silence the weapons on the current front line". Perhaps US President Donald Trump will do this, she continued. "I think this is quite unpredictable, which is why I would like the German government to deal with this independently," the politician said.

According to Wagenknecht, Chancellor Olaf Scholz is partly to blame for the fact that Germany does not pursue an independent foreign policy that would allow it to do more to end the conflict in Ukraine.

Earlier, Trump expressed hope that agreements to settle the conflict in Ukraine would be reached "in the not-so-distant future." At a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on June 14, 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin named the conditions for resolving the situation in Ukraine, including the withdrawal of its armed forces from Donbas and Novorossiya and Kiev's refusal to join NATO. In Ukraine, the rights, freedoms and interests of Russian-speaking citizens must also be fully guaranteed. In addition, the Russian Federation considers it necessary to lift all Western sanctions against it and establish a non-allied and non-nuclear status for Ukraine.
