Protesters were threatened, and one of them was injured, during an election rally of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in the town of Templin, located about 70 kilometers from Berlin, DPA reported, citing police, BTA reports.
The event in the town of Templin, Brandenburg province, was organized by the local AfD association and attracted about 80 people. At the same time, a demonstration was held, attended by just over 100 people.
Police said that law enforcement had to intervene to prevent 10 people from the election event from clashing with protesters. One of the participants threatened a protester with violence and was subsequently expelled.
Later, between 10 and 20 people followed one of the protesters and kicked him in the leg and punched him in the ear. The victim managed to hide in a nearby pharmacy.
Police said that the identities of 12 people who are believed to have been part of the AfD election event have been established and they will be the subject of further investigation.
Germany will hold parliamentary elections on February 23. According to polls, the AfD ranks second after the conservative bloc of the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU).
