The war of words that broke out in the Oval Office a few days ago between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky was not spontaneous. This opinion was expressed by the likely future Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz, leader of the conservative CDU/CSU, reported the Ukrainian TV FREEDOM.
Washington may have planned in advance the conflict between the presidents of Ukraine and the United States, which arose on February 28 in the Oval Office of the White House, the German politician believes.
According to Merz, this is a provoked escalation, not a spontaneous reaction to the words of the Ukrainian head of state.
„In my opinion, at this meeting in the Oval Office, there was no spontaneous reaction to Zelensky's words, but an obviously provoked escalation. I was a little surprised by the tone of the conversation, it did not bring any benefit. What we saw in Washington is a certain sequence in the chain of events of the last few weeks, including the appearance of the American delegation in Munich at the security conference,“, Merz noted.
On Friday, tensions between Kiev and Washington escalated after Trump and US Vice President J.D. Vance accused Zelensky of being ungrateful and wanting the war to continue. The reason for the escalation was the words of the Ukrainian president, who said that there was no point in having a dialogue with Vladimir Putin, because he would break all his promises and agreements, as he has done in the past.
