Australia considers participation in peacekeeping mission in Ukraine - 1

After Britain and France, Australia has also expressed its readiness to send peacekeeping forces to Ukraine in the event of a ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, Der Standard reports, News.bg reports.

The Australian government is ready to support Ukraine and consider a possible peacekeeping mission, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said.

The statement comes shortly after the administration of former US President Donald Trump announced the suspension of military aid to Ukraine.

Australia, although not a member of NATO, is one of the Alliance's global partners. In unison with European countries supporting Ukraine, it joined the sanctions against Russian companies and individuals. On the third anniversary of the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, Australia imposed new sanctions.

Last week, the government in Canberra said it had no plans to participate in a peacekeeping mission, although it remains "shoulder to shoulder" with Ukraine. Now, however, Australian media are reporting a change in position and a possible reversal of the decision.
