France will call on the European Union to respond to US President Donald Trump's latest announcement on imposing tariffs, French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on Tuesday, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The foreign minister told TF1 television that France and its European partners should not hesitate to defend their interests in the face of threats from US tariffs.
The European Union will take "retaliatory measures" against any new US tariff, he added, quoted by Agence France-Presse.
Last night, President Trump told reporters that he would announce reciprocal tariffs these days, which would come into effect almost immediately and would be imposed on imports of goods from all countries in accordance with the tariff rates they have on US goods.
The American head of state also said that today he would announce a 25 percent tariff on steel and aluminium imports into the US.
"There is no hesitation when it comes to protecting our interests," stressed Jean-Noël Barrot, adding that the European Commission has a mandate to act in this direction.
