Ryabkov: Russia and the US maintain contacts, but without official agreements - 1

Moscow and Washington have certain contacts through their foreign policy departments, said Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov, quoted by RIA Novosti, reports Focus.

"I have nothing to add to what the president's press secretary said. There are certain contacts, but I have no reason to disclose details on this topic. But in general, the process is underway," Ryabkov said.

According to him, there is currently no agreed schedule for contacts between Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, but agreements are expected once the situation is clarified.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, in a statement to reporters in Moscow on February 10, repeated his position yesterday on the question of whether there was a telephone conversation between Putin and Trump: "I can't say anything more. I can neither confirm nor deny that.”

On February 9, speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said the United States was making progress but declined to provide details about any contacts with Putin. “I don’t want to tell you about the conversations,” he said.

Asked if he had spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin since taking office on January 20, Trump replied: “I have spoken. Let’s say I have spoken… And I expect many more conversations. We have to end this war.”

Officially, the last conversation between Vladimir Putin and US President Joe Biden took place in February 2022, shortly before the war began.
