The United States has deported hundreds of alleged members of the Venezuelan gang "Tren de Aragua", using provisions of the Alien Enemies Act of 1798, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said today, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
“Hundreds of violent criminals have been removed from our country," Rubio said.
On Friday, President Donald Trump invoked the wartime Alien Enemies Act to expedite the deportation of alleged members of the "Tren de Aragua" - a criminal organization that is involved in kidnappings, extortion, organized crime and contract killings.
Yesterday, a federal judge blocked the implementation of the law for deportations for 14 days, saying that the law refers to "hostile acts" committed by another country that are "commensurate with war".
El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele said in an article in "Ex" that 238 alleged members of the Venezuelan gang "Tren de Aragua" had arrived in his country and were immediately transferred to a Terrorist Detention Center for a one-year term, which could be extended.
Bukele added that the US had also sent 23 members of the Salvadoran gang MS-13, including two high-ranking members.
