US President Donald Trump said he had spoken to Chinese leader Xi Jinping since taking office on January 20, Reuters reports.
However, he did not give details about the topics of their conversation.
"Yes... I spoke to him and his people", confirmed Trump, when asked if he had spoken to the Chinese leader since his inauguration.
"We have a very good personal relationship," he added.
The president did not provide details about exactly when the call took place or what was discussed.
Last week, Trump said he was in no hurry to spoke with Xi to try to prevent another trade war between the world's two largest economies. The call between Xi and Trump is seen as crucial to potentially easing or slowing trade tariffs.
Trump and Xi spoke just before Trump took office in January and discussed a range of issues, including TikTok, trade and Taiwan.
Last week, China imposed targeted tariffs on U.S. imports and warned several companies, including Alphabet Inc.'s Google, of possible sanctions, in a measured response to Trump's sweeping 10% tariffs that were on top of previous such measures.
Washington and Beijing have had tense relations for years over a range of differences, from trade tariffs and cybersecurity to Taiwan, Hong Kong, human rights and the origins of COVID-19.
A few days ago, Trump said he had also spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone to discuss ending the war in Ukraine.
The Kremlin, however, has neither confirmed nor denied conducting such a conversation.
