The terrorist group "Islamic State" has claimed responsibility for yesterday's suicide attack in northern Afghanistan, which killed at least five people, Agence France-Presse reported, BTA reports.
According to the jihadists' propaganda unit, the attacker detonated his explosives vest in front of a state-owned bank in the city of Kunduz, where members of the Taliban forces had gathered to receive their salaries.
Police confirmed that the attack took place shortly after the bank opened, with the victims being government employees and seven people injured.
Similar attacks have already been carried out by "Islamic State". In March 2024 in Kandahar, suicide bombers blew themselves up among a crowd of civil servants waiting for their salaries in front of a branch of the same bank.
In December 2023, the Afghan Minister of Refugees, Khalil Haqqani, was killed in an attack on the ministry building in Kabul, for which the "Islamic State" also claimed responsibility.
Despite Taliban authorities' claims that the jihadist threat has been eliminated, attacks in Afghanistan continue. However, the number of bombings and suicide attacks has decreased significantly since the Taliban seized power in August 2021, AFP notes.
