German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius criticized the US government for publicly making concessions to Russia even before the upcoming peace talks on Ukraine have begun, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said yesterday at the NATO meeting in Brussels that returning Ukraine to its pre-2014 borders is "unrealistic". He added that Kiev should abandon its aspirations for NATO membership, and the United States would not send its troops to any peacekeeping force on Ukrainian territory.
Washington's approach was sharply criticized by Pistorius.
"In my opinion, it would be better if the issues of Ukraine's possible NATO membership or the possible loss of territories were discussed only at the negotiating table, and not made public in advance," the German minister said in Brussels.
He stressed that it was essential for Europe to actively participate in the negotiations, as it would play a key role in the new international order.
