Human trafficking is a disgrace, Pope Francis said during the 11th World Day of Prayer and Reflection against Human Trafficking, Aleteia.org reported.
The day is celebrated in the Church on the liturgical commemoration of Saint Josephine Bakita, a Sudanese nun who herself was a victim of human trafficking.
In his address, Pope Francis condemned this “global phenomenon“ that has swept the world, claiming “millions of victims – and continues unabated“. He called on the world to confront this terrible social scourge.

The Pope expressed the hope that in the Jubilee Year of 2025, many more will become ambassadors of hope and join the fight against human trafficking.
The message emphasizes that human trafficking is a complex phenomenon that is constantly evolving and is fueled by wars, conflicts, hunger and the effects of climate change. He calls on governments and organizations to join forces to protect human dignity, eliminate all forms of human trafficking and strengthen peace in the world.
