Ukraine's accession to the EU will strengthen the bloc's eastern flank militarily and strengthen its geopolitical positions globally, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmygal said in an article published in "Politico", BTA reported.
In the article, Shmygal said that Ukraine has unparalleled experience in countering Russian aggression, which makes its membership a strategic necessity for the EU.
"There is a country that has not only faced various manifestations of Russian aggression, but most importantly - knows how to counter them. This country is Ukraine. That is why Ukraine's accession to the EU is not only a moral obligation, but also a strategic step that is necessary, first of all, for the bloc itself. A step that will strengthen its eastern flank militarily and increase its geopolitical weight on a global scale. The EU needs Ukraine to protect it," the Ukrainian Prime Minister added, quoted by Ukrinform.
Shmygal stressed that no other European country has as much experience in modern military operations as Ukraine.
"It was the Ukrainians who did the impossible by building the infrastructure for the production of drones - "the new artillery of the 21st century", almost from scratch. While in 2022 no more than 5,000 drones were produced in Ukraine, by the end of 2024 "over 1 million drones have been sent to the front line alone," he said.
Shmighal also stressed that combining EU financial resources with Ukraine's military experience is key to future cooperation.
