The Kremlin spokesman has dismissed as a provocation Ukraine's accusations that a Russian drone damaged the protective casing of the sarcophagus around the destroyed reactor at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant tonight, TASS and Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

Dmitry Peskov told journalists in Moscow that he did not have accurate information about the alleged incident, but stressed that Russia categorically does not strike nuclear facilities or attack nuclear power plants.

The Kremlin spokesman called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's accusations “another falsification“ and denied claims that a Russian drone had hit the protective shell of the Chernobyl sarcophagus.

The accusations against Russia were called by the Kremlin a “provocation“ that Kiev had planned before the Munich Security Conference. In response to a journalistic question, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Zelensky would attend the conference “empty-handed“.

“Just as last year there was a provocation in the form of an attack on a children's hospital in Kiev, this year the Ukrainian president is using a similar scenario to beg for help and money again“, Zakharova added.

She also indicated that Kiev was preparing an attack on nuclear facilities, defining the actions of the Ukrainian regime as “nuclear terrorism“. According to Zakharova, there is no doubt that this is part of a pre-planned provocation.
