European Commissioner for Economy Valdis Dombrovskis defined Bulgaria's goal of joining the Eurozone from January 1, 2026 as realistic, BNR reported. However, he warned that our country still has a lot of work to do.
"This date is the goal that Bulgaria has set for itself. Of course, it is important to meet all the Maastricht criteria - for inflation, where things are moving in that direction, but it is relatively close to the reference value, and also for the fiscal performance," he said at the start of the Eurogroup meeting, where the finance ministers of the Eurozone countries are listening to the Bulgarian Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova.
Dombrovskis pointed out that the European Commission (EC) expects the medium-term fiscal framework plan under the new economic governance framework, as well as the completion of other aspects of our country's preparations. "I think the target is realistic and we at the Commission are willing to support it, but there is still work to be done," said Valdis Dombrovskis.
