Ukraine today called Russian President Vladimir Putin's claims of a new offensive from the territory of the Russian Kursk region into Ukrainian territory a "lie", reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by News.bg.
"Putin's information about a large-scale Russian offensive is a lie", wrote Andriy Kovalenko, spokesman for the Ukrainian Center for Combating Disinformation, on Telegram.
According to him, a Russian "reconnaissance and sabotage group" attempted to penetrate Ukraine from the Kursk region, but was "destroyed" by Ukrainian forces.
Putin earlier said that Russian troops had entered Ukraine overnight, with Russian state media reporting that the offensive began in the Kursk region.
A similar offensive into the Sumy region in northern Ukraine would be the first since the Russian withdrawal in the spring of 2022, Agence France-Presse noted.
