The former commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Valery Zaluzhny revealed that he made a big mistake during the war, UNIAN reported, citing NV.
The Ukrainian command underestimated the Kremlin's willingness to suffer losses in its attempt to destroy Ukraine, said the general, who is currently Kiev's ambassador to the UK. Zaluzhny based his plans on the expectation that the heavy losses of the Russian army would force the Russians to stop. However, this assessment turned out to be wrong.
„That was absolutely my mistake. Today we see that human resources are the cheapest for Russia. Russia certainly does not take into account human losses and is ready to achieve its goal even through the heaviest losses. This must be taken into account“, Zaluzhny said.
At the same time, he expressed his conviction that inflicting maximum losses on the Russians still remains an urgent task for Ukrainian forces.
According to Kiev, since the beginning of Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, more than 862,000 Russian soldiers have been eliminated at the front. Moscow is hiding the true number of its losses. Ukraine is also suffering heavy losses, and the figures for them are contradictory.
