Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly said that his country has the necessary expertise and technical capacity to rebuild the war-torn Gaza Strip within three years, Al Ahram reported, BTA reports.
During the weekly cabinet press conference, Madbouly stressed that Cairo is developing a comprehensive plan for the reconstruction of the region in cooperation with universities and leading Egyptian consulting companies.
“From a technical and engineering point of view, we have all the necessary resources to rebuild Gaza and even make it better than its previous state within three years,“ the prime minister said. He added that Egypt also takes into account the assessments of international institutions, including the World Bank.
Madbouly confirmed that formulating a comprehensive vision for the future of the Strip will be a key topic of the upcoming Arab summit, which will be held on March 4 in Cairo.
At the same time, Egypt is mobilizing Arab, Islamic and international support for an initiative aimed at preventing former US President Donald Trump's proposal to resettle Palestinians from Gaza to Jordan and Egypt in order to create the so-called “Middle Eastern Riviera“.
According to an analysis by the United Nations, the European Union and the World Bank, rebuilding Gaza will require over $50 billion. Initial estimates indicate that over 292,000 homes have been partially or completely destroyed, 95% of hospitals are out of operation, and the local economy has suffered an 83% collapse. The UN humanitarian agency reported that more than 1.8 million people in the strip urgently need shelter.
