Romania cuts 13 percent of civil servants

Romanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced a 13.5 percent reduction in personnel in the state apparatus, Agerpres and Reuters reported, BTA reported.

At the beginning of a government meeting today, Ciolacu said that 1,800 positions in institutions subordinate to the government will be eliminated.

„As we promised publicly, we are starting the largest reduction in operating expenses in the history of the Romanian government. "We are eliminating 1,800 civil servant and contract employee positions in the 32 institutions that are under our subordination and coordination, we are eliminating and merging institutions, we are reducing the number of employees and positions in civil servants," said Ciolacu, quoted by Agerpres.

He specified that this is a reduction in positions by 13.5 percent. “I think this is a concrete signal that is expected by society and business”, added the Romanian prime minister.
