Ukrainian Energy Minister German Galushchenko said that Russia attacked Ukraine's gas infrastructure on the night of February 19-20.
"This night, Russia again carried out another massive missile and drone attack on the gas infrastructure. In particular, production facilities were damaged. As soon as the security situation allowed, specialists began assessing the damage and restoration work," the minister said in a post on Facebook.
According to Galushchenko, the aim of the strikes is to stop the production of gas, which is necessary to meet the domestic needs of citizens and for centralized heating. Measures are currently being taken to eliminate the consequences and stabilize gas supplies.
It was previously reported that on Thursday night, as a result of a Russian attack on Odessa, an energy infrastructure facility and a heat pipeline were damaged.
The Russian Defense Ministry commented on the night attacks on Ukrainian cities on the morning of February 20. According to a statement from the ministry published by TASS, the Russian army struck energy facilities, including gas energy facilities that supply Ukraine's military-industrial complex (MIC).
