Trump and the New World Order: The Balance of Power Between the US, Russia and China - 1

In his article for the Wall Street Journal, Gerard Baker expresses the opinion that President Donald Trump's unapologetic contempt for Ukraine and its "dictator", along with his admiration for Russia and the "genius" of the Kremlin, may actually hide a strategic basis, Focus reports.

Trump is not wrong that America has long borne the burden of global leadership, and the "liberal order" that the US has led is now giving way to a new world. In it, the US must pursue a more clearly defined national interest, and the era of spending hundreds of billions to protect parts of the world that are no longer strategically important is over.

Trump's strategy in international relations is leading to the creation of a new world order based on the balance of power between three great powers: the US, Russia and China. The columnist emphasizes that new trends in global dynamics create the feeling that Trump may revive the great power approach to global strategy, with diplomats already talking about a new “Yalta system“.

The author notes that Trump's desire to expand US territory and tie foreign policy to economic resources, as well as his agreement with Putin's ambitions and respect for Chinese President Xi Jinping, point to a realistic approach to foreign policy. This approach seems to revolve around the concept of a new Big Three of great powers.

Baker predicts that the new balance of power could lead to a more flexible approach to state borders, the expansion of nuclear weapons, and a realignment of global geopolitical and economic power. According to him, Trump would welcome this new world order.
